Colombo, Oct 04 (Daily Mirror) - A special meeting was held at the Police Headquarters to review the progress of several high-profile investigations concerning crimes, fraud and other controversial cases in Sri Lanka.
The meeting, chaired by newly appointed Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security, Ravi Seneviratne focused on examining ongoing and stalled investigations.
Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Priyantha Weerasooriya, senior police officials and officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) attended the meeting.
Police spokesman DIG Nihal Thalduwa said the meeting covered a wide range of issues, including investigations that had been temporarily halted and those that had been unnecessarily delayed.
The Secretary inquired whether any investigations had been obstructed due to political influence, and emphasised the need to address the reasons behind any delays.
The meeting also reviewed which investigations needed to be restarted and identified cases that may have been affected by external factors.
The spokesman said that several key investigations have been highlighted during the discussion.
Police said a report will be prepared to ensure that necessary steps are taken to continue the investigations effectively.
