Former CR & FC Boss to Chair Standing Committee

Minister of Sports Roshan Ranasinghe has dissolved Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) as per the provisions in the section 32 & 33 of Sports Act No. 25 of 1973. A standing committee is set to be appointed on April 12 at the Sports Ministry premises.

Daily Mirror reliably understands that a former President of CR and FC is set to chair the standing committee having also served as head of Rugby Referees' Society.

Among the key responsibilities of the standing committee is to make amendments to the constitution in a way that the 'A' division clubs could have the voting rights in a major overhaul putting an end to the dictatorship of provincial councils.

The appointment of a standing committee would mean the end of the road for incumbent president Rizly Illyas who has had a very difficult time with the Ministry of Sports from the start of his tenure.

When contacted by Daily Mirror Illyas stated that he has still not been informed about the standing committee thus far.

"We SLR has not been advised so what can I say," Illyas told Daily Mirror. By Harsha Amarasinghe
