Sri Lanka formed an action committee comprising of key ministry secretaries to implement strategies aimed at re-employing the individuals impacted by the economic crisis, the President’s Media Division (PMD) said in a statement.
The committee comprises of ministry secretaries from the education, finance, tourism, fisheries, transport and plantation industries.
The PMD said this committee emulates the actions of a tripartite committee formed during President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s time as Prime Minister, with the primary objective of tackling job losses stemming from the economic crisis. The tripartite committee devised strategies for re-employment, which were then handed over to the Labour and Foreign Employment Ministry for execution. To support these efforts, the World Labour Organisation offered technical assistance through an extensive survey, resulting in a final report presented to the ministry.
The newly-appointed action committee will be responsible for identifying the areas with increased job opportunities and implementing qualification development programmes to connect individuals with these prospects.
“By leveraging collective expertise and collaboration across ministries, this action committee aspires to swiftly create job opportunities and pave the way for personal and economic growth,” the PMD said.
