Sri Lanka is currently facing a shortage of Intraocular Lenses, which are used for treating cataracts and addressing various vision problems through eye implantation.
According to the online drug availability platform, 'Swastha', both the Medical Supplies Division and hospitals in Sri Lanka are reporting a complete absence of Intraocular Lenses in their stocks.
Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the Health Ministry has taken immediate action to procure additional supplies of Intraocular Lenses worth Rs. 09 million.
Meanwhile, sources from the National Eye Hospital and several other hospitals told the Daily Mirror that no hindrances have been caused so far to the surgeries, as they are managing with the limited stocks. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
