Suspect arrested over murder of ’Kalamulle Tashi’ dies in prison

Kalutara, May 28 (Daily Mirror) - A suspect who was arrested and remanded in connection with a murder in Katukurunda, Kalutara last week, was found dead in the Kalutara prison yesterday (27).

The deceased, Thushara Rukmal Silva, a resident of Palapitiyagoda was arrested on May 25 in connection with the shooting in Kalutara in which 39-year-old Tashmin Madhuwantha Silva alias 'Kalamulle Tashi' was killed and his 8-year-old daughter injured on May 20.

The suspect Rukmal Silva was remanded over the shooting after being produced before the Kalutara Magistrate's Court.

According to prison sources, the inmate died yesterday afternoon (27) after being admitted to the Nagoda Teaching Hospital due to a sudden illness.

The post-mortem examination of the deceased suspect is to be conducted today (28) and Kalutara (North) Police are conducting further investigations.
