Colombo, August 20 (Daily Mirror) - A total of 736,589 applications have been received for postal voting at the 2024 Presidential election, and a total of 24,268 applications among them have been rejected, Commissioner General Elections Saman Sri Ratnayake said.
Addressing the media, he said a total of 712,321 applicants are eligible for postal voting.
The Commission is expecting a maximum of 800,000 applications for postal voting.
Nearly 500 complaints relating to the election have been received by the Commission, but most of the complaints relate to incidents of election law violations such as transfers and attempts to provide jobs.
However, no major election violation incidents have been reported so far.
Ratnayake requested the candidates not act against the election.
Meanwhile, a special request was made to all candidates and their supporters not to use the national flag for political agendas and also not to use the symbols in the national flag for election propaganda.
Meanwhile, Election Commission Chairman R.M.A.L. Rathnayake said the ballot paper for the 2024 Presidential election is currently being printed at the Government Press under special security.
Also, he said the ballot paper for this election will be 27 inches long, and the polling cards are still under printing.
The polling cards for the 2024 Presidential election will be distributed by post from the beginning of next month, the Chairman said.
