Twenty four member cabinet to be sworn in today

The board of Cabinet ministers and their deputies of the new government is slated to be representative of women MPs and all three main ethnicities, a source said.

Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya will continue to hold the same post

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake will retain the defense portfolio . According to informed sources , it will be a Cabinet of 24 members including the President .

The ruling National People's Power (NPP) won the general election with numerous records. For the first time, the NPP secured more than two-thirds -159 seats of the 225-member House-as a single party under the current proportional representation system.

It also set a new record by winning all the electoral districts of the country bar Batticaloa.

Upon the conclusion of announcement of results, General Secretary of the JVP Tilvin Silva said the government had taken the message delivered by people in this thumping majority with due seriousness.

He said the government would not become arrogant over this unprecedented win and instead serve for the realization of public aspirations.
