UNP will expel more members from the party who had joined Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) by Friday, July 31, its Assistant Leader Ravi Karunanayake said today.
Responding to a question raised by the journalists to this effect at a press conference, Mr. Karunanayake said expelling of some members had to be delayed as some who joined SJB have requested for a change of decision while some will rejoin. “We did not expel everyone at the same time as some have requested not to take action against them while there are others who want to rejoin the party. There are some who have already joined us,” Mr. Karunanayake said.
“Architects of SJB should not be taken back and should be expelled,” he added.
Asked whether action will be taken against Colombo Mayoress Rosy Senanayake, Mr. Karunanayake said action will be taken against everyone who have breached discipline. “We have not decided on Ms. Senanayake yet but have called for her explanation,” he said in this regard.
“The last few months of the Yahapalana government was a mess. It was more or less Walpalanya more than Yahapalanaya during the last few months of the previous government. This happened because of a handful of people,” he also said.
Mr Karunanayake also questioned as to why the government delayed the probe on misuse of Rs 11 billion from the Central Cultural Fund and on the allegation that Rs 400 million went missing during the presidential election.(Yohan Perera)
