Venuki wins Bronze at Singapore Swimming Meet

Colombo, Dec. 15 (Daily Mirror) - The Sri Lankan Age Group Swimming Team bagged a Bronze Medal on the first day of the 17th Singapore Open Artistic Swimming Championships at the OCBC Aquatic Centre in Singapore.

Venuki Wijesena scored 62.0060 points in the 13-15 years Youth Figure Competition to finish third on the podium, while Kihara Goonetilleke finished in fifth place with 58.3623 points in 11-12 years age group.

Others to compete on the first day in the 11-12 years age group were Amara Watson Kittle placing 23rd with 54.5845 points and Aheli Joseph placing 47th with 46.6135 points from a field of 63 participants.

Also competing in the 13-15 years Youth category were Ayla Watson Kittle ranked 24th with 53.8424 points, Satvi Arjuna ranked 33rd with 51.0000 points and Sanuki Suraweera and Andrea Thirukumar in 35th and 36th place with 50.6849 and 50.5818 points respectively amongst 52 participants.

A team of 17 participants are competing in various age groups in the first international Artistic Swimming outing since 2019.

The rest of the swimmers are expected to give of their best in the rest of the two days of the competition that has over 220 artistic swimmers participating from various countries and clubs from the Asia continent.

The team comprising of swimmers from Aurora Synchro Club, Ladies’ College, Musaeus College and Visakha Vidyalaya are under the supervision of Dehara Katipearachchi, a former Asian Games and Commonwealth Games athlete as the Head Coach.
