Wasantha Karannagoda among four provincial governors to be replaced

Former Navy Commander Wasantha Karannagoda who was designated by the United States barring entry into the country over human rights issues is among the four provincial governors to be replaced , Daily Mirror learns . 


 Karannagoda , the wartime navy commander , currently serves as the governor of the north western province.  However, it is unclear whether the US designation of him over human rights issues is linked to the planned removal of him from office .  


President Ranil Wickremesinghe has decided to remove the governors of Sabaragamuwa, northern , eastern and north western provinces soon upon his return to the country .  
A top government source told Daily Mirror that there were complaints against these governors from bureaucracy in their respective provinces .  The president has the constitutional authority to appoint governors to the provinces . In the absence of elected representatives, they supervise the activities of the provincial councils .
