Colombo, April 22 (Daily Mirror)- Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, who took up the position as the Acting Chairman of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) could lose his parliamentary seat, according to the party constitution of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), SLPP MP Tissa Kuttiarachchi said today.
He told a news conference that the SLPP had not discussed the matter as yet and that the SLPP General Secretary would take a decision soon.
The MP said according to the party constitution and laws, one will loses his party membership soon after he obtains membership of another political party.
He said as such, Minister Rajapakshe could lose his party membership and thereby, he will lose his parliamentary seat as well.
"Minister Rajapakshe obtained SLPP membership and got elected to parliament under the SLPP ticket. He has committed an offence by obtaining the chairmanship of another opposition political party. So, his SLPP membership will be nullified and as a result, he will lose his parliamentary seat as well," he said.
