Colombo, September 21 (Daily Mirror) - Former President Maithripala Sirisena said this morning after casting his vote in Polonnaruwa, that he will support whoever is elected President in this election.
Speaking to the media, he said that the incoming President will face numerous challenges, as the government will need to spend at least Rs. 40 billion on upcoming elections.
"This election alone costs more than Rs. 10 billion, and the Provincial Council and Pradeshiya Sabha elections will also cost over Rs. 10 billion," he said.
He also said that with such expenses, the new President will face significant issues in managing the economy and providing services to the public.
"I have not retired from politics, but have not decided to contest in future Presidential or parliamentary elections," he added.
