Colombo, September 17 (Daily Mirror)-  The National People's Power assured that a future NPP government will not change Article 9 of the Constitution which states that the Republic of Sri Lanka shall give the foremost place to Buddhism.

NPP MP Vijitha Herath gave this assurance during a meeting convened by the All Ceylon Buddhit Congress (ACBC) to discuss the manifestos of the Presidential candidates and their plegdes to protect Buddhism, Sinhalese culture and the country country's sovereignty.

He said an NPP government will protect and uphold Article 9 of the Constitution while upholding the unitary character, sovereignty and national security of the country, adding that the JVP is a movement which has made a huge contribution in this regard and assured to continue to do so.

He said they will only implement the 13th Amendment in its current form and that the NPP will not provide police and land powers to the Provincial Councils.

"We hold the view that the 13th Amendment is not the solution to the national issue or provincial development," he added.
