The Communications Department of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka yesterday released pictures of President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe visiting the Central Bank premises on July 9.
A brief statement said they were jointly received by Governor Arjuna Mahendran, members of the Monetary Board and the senior management of the Central Bank.
A new silver coin minted for the 150th birth anniversary of Srimath Anagarika Dharmapala was presented as a memento in honour of the president’s visit to the bank.
However, interestingly, the pictures were released the day after President Sirisena said he suggested the resignation of Governor Mahendran to Prime Minister Wickremesinghe following the Rs.10 billion bond scam, during an hour-long special statement.
The bond deal had become the biggest scandal to haunt the ‘good governance’ regime, which was elected on January 8.
