Amidst the current Sri Lankan context, the Asia-Pacific Alliance for Disaster Management Sri Lanka (A-PAD SL) is gearing up to host its annual international symposium next week, where it will focus on finding solutions to help overcome the crisis situation in the country.
The event, scheduled to be held on August 30, hopes to critically address the issues at hand in the country and portray more positive future prospects that can be worked towards.
The symposium will deliberate on the theme ‘Crisis in Crises: Unlocking the Power of Alliances Towards Innovative Recovery’. Emphasis will be placed on cross-sectoral collaboration between the public and private sectors and how these alliances can be utilised to facilitate innovative recovery and build stronger institutions for the future.
The event will bring together leading figures and international experts from different sectors and provide them with a platform to engage in a constructive dialogue.
Two panel discussions will be held during the course of the symposium, where the first will be more attuned to the local context in Sri Lanka and how effectively resilient recovery can act as a counterbalance to multi-dimensional crises. The second panel will focus on regional perspectives on robust economic action, where panellists will provide an in-depth analysis of international efforts toward economic revival.
The international and local experts participating in each panel will engage in a lively discussion on the extent of the current crisis in Sri Lanka and help drive forward a more positive outlook for the future. Headquartered in Japan, the A-PAD SL is aimed at coordinating and supporting disaster preparedness, mitigation, disaster risk reduction, capacity building and relief activities across Sri Lanka.
