The management of Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) set the record straight on a message that is circulating on social media that claims the entity has been eradicating stray dogs roaming in its premises.
In a statement to the media yesterday, the management of BMICH said the claims going viral stating that stay dogs entering the premises are poisoned and killed, is completely untrue.
It stressed that as an increasing number of stray dogs were frequenting the premises, the management took the step to relocate the animals outside the BMICH premises.
“We are aware that this smear campaign is being carried out by a few persons, who go around Colombo feeding stray dogs, who have barged into the BMICH premises, many times, purportedly to feed the stray dogs,” said the management.
“These persons have clearly used photos taken elsewhere, for their lying and irresponsible smear campaign,” the
statement added.
The management stressed that the BMICH follows strict regulations during the pandemic, including not permitting any unauthorized persons to enter our premises.
According to the statement, the step to relocate the stray dogs was taken after several complaints were received from visitors regarding the dogs. It added that there have been instances where visitors and staff were attacked by the dogs as well. The management stated that while it appreciates the importance of animal life and the need to protect them, but the main responsibility of BMICH is the safety and security of its customers and staff.
“The BMICH is an iconic landmark of Sri Lanka and as the management of this esteemed institution, it is our responsibility to ensure the safety, security, and satisfaction of all who enter our premises.
“We strongly request the persons carrying out this smear campaign to be more responsible and civic conscious, not only towards stray dogs but also to our citizens,” the
management said.
