Barely 5 MnKgs under hammer at this week’s Colombo Tea Auction

Barely five MnKgs came under the hammer at the Colombo Tea Auction this week.
The tea brokers noted that the low sentiments on production triggered the market.


The Low Growns’ Main Grades totalled 2.31 MnKgs, which met with fair general demand, while the High and Mid Grown Main Grades totalled 1.73 MnKgs. 


In the Leafy Grade catalogues, the select best OP1s were firm and the bolder varieties were irregularly lower and others held firm. The select best OP/OPAs held firm, whereas the best teas lost out in value. All others were slightly dearer, the latest tea report by Asia Siyaka Commodities highlighted. In the Semi Leafy catalogues, the BOP1s were all around firm on last. The select best Pekoes held firm; all others gained Rs.100 and more at times, especially for bolder teas. The Pekoe1s were fully firm on last. 

In the Tippy Small leaf catalogues, the select best FBOP1/FBOPs were firm on last; the best and below best teas were dearer and the others were firm on last.


The select best FBOPF1s were firm; the best teas met with good demand and sold at dearer rates. All others were firm. The select best and best FBOPFs gained in value whilst the others were firm. The Stylish BOPs held firm and the best and below best gained in value. The others sold at last levels. The BOPFs appreciated in value all-round. 
In the Premium Flowery catalogues, the long leaf and small leaf tippy teas met with good demand and sold at dearer rates. More general demand was seen in the Ex-Estate catalogues this week.  A range of best Western BOPs moved up in value, whilst the others were firm on last. The Better Western BOPFs were fully firm but irregularly lower by Rs.50. the others fully maintained on last. The Nuwara Eliya BOP/BOPFs were difficult to sell.

The Udapussellawa BOPs opened lower but were firm by the close. The BOPFs were irregular but generally held firm.  The Uva BOPs were firm. The BOPFs were irregularly dearer. The Stylish Medium BOPs were dearer on special inquiry and the others were firm. The Better BOPFs were steady on last; the others were sometimes sharply dearer. The high-priced CTC PF1s were dearer Rs.50.
