Boeing, the world’s largest manufacturer of airplanes and aerospace equipment, has been instrumental in improving the quality of Sri Lanka’s aviation industry.

At the request of Minister of State for Aviation and Investment Zone Development D.V. Chanaka, Boeing has sponsored a training course on Safety Management for 30 personnel in the aviation industry.

The training course, valued at around Rs. 20 million, was conducted completely free-of-charge by the University of Southern California. For this purpose, persons related to this field were selected from various institutions.
State Minister Chanaka, Upul Dharmadasa, Chairman, Civil Aviation Authority and Themiya Abeywickrema, Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority presented the certificates to those who completed the training at the Civil Aviation Authority recently.

“The aviation sector has been the hardest hit by the current epidemic. An airplane usually flies between 14-18 hours a day. However, in the face of the Covid epidemic, all planes had to be grounded in airports. All earnings in this sector stopped. But as a government, we acted with a vision for the future.

Taking advantage of this global epidemic, we worked to upgrade our airport facilities. Katunayake Airport is undergoing a major development. Mattala, Ratmalana and other airports are being developed, said the State Minister D.V. Chanaka addressing the awarding ceremony. Speaking further Chanaka said that Mattala International Airport has become an efficient airport without any SriLankan Airlines flights. “21 airlines that have never been to Sri Lanka have commenced operations. Steps have been taken to promote Mattala as a tourist destination. We were able to bring together the Ministry of Tourism and other parties for that. Three more airlines have agreed to start operations in Mattala.
