His efforts in this regard have been duly recognised by the certification body – Control Union Inspection in selecting him as the first Chairman of plantation companies to receive the individual Climate Neutral Citizen award and certificate.

Control Union Sri Lanka and Myanmar Managing Director Roshan Ranawake and his team of senior personnel called over recently at the LOLC head office, to present the prestigious award to Dr. Uluwaduge.

In his address, Ranawake enumerated the progressive actions initiated by Dr. Uluwaduge who has distinguished himself as a leader committed to impactful measures that benefit both humanity and the environment.

Browns Plantations has significantly expanded its international presence, acquiring extensive tea estates and factories in Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and China, in addition to holding three large regional plantation companies in Sri Lanka. This expansion has positioned Browns Plantations as the largest producer of tea globally. Dr. Uluwaduge, as Chairman of these entities, richly deserves the recognition accorded to him by this certification.

He was confident that Browns Plantations is well positioned with its strong presence in Sri Lanka, East Africa and China to lead its ESG Drive towards achieving Sustainability Development Goals.

Key projects across all three Browns Plantations estates initiated by Dr. Uluwaduge under his stewardship include; timber cultivation drive, reforestation initiatives carried out in collaboration with ‘Thuru’, an innovative social enterprise and other external parties on the estates, implementation of new automation processes to integrate enhanced checks and balances into the entire supply chain while ensuring right governance is upheld, social upliftment of estate workers through revenue sharing model, thereby empowering them as micro entrepreneurs and an ongoing green energy drive with a long-term plan to equip all factory roofing with solar panels, along with multiple certifications from national and international institutions for all plantation companies.
