The Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL) has stepped up efforts to establish a stronger working relationship with the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), so that the local talent in the aviation sector can have improved access to better opportunities.

The CAASL has put forward a proposal to the ICAO leadership, which outlines a mechanism to employ the aviation workforce in Sri Lanka in the member states of the ICAO.

The effort, which was proposed by NGAP-SL National Coordinator Gimhan Dabarera, was presented by CAASL Chairman Upul Dharmadasa to ICAO Secretary General Juan Carlos Salazar, at the organisation’s headquarters in Montreal, Canada, earlier this week.

The meeting between the two heads was “fruitful”, a statement released by the CAASL yesterday said.

The statement added that the discussion was very successful and Dharmadasa requested technical support to enhance the aviation industry in Sri Lanka. Salazar introduced Dharmadasa to the Technical Committee of the ICAO and the CAASL may receive free aviation training programmes conducted by the ICAO in the future.
