CB to release 2017 annual report tomorrow

The Central Bank said yesterday that its annual report for 2017 would be released tomorrow.  The first copy will be presented to Finance and Mass Media Minister Mangala Samaraweera, since the Central Bank falls under his portfolio under prevailing legislation. 

Last year was highlighted by high inflation and muted growth stemming from weather related disruptions to local agricultural supply chains and the Central Bank continuing a tight monetary policy in order to combat high private credit growth. The Central Bank also allowed market forces to determine the rupee, and built up foreign exchange reserves in order to meet the debt repayment challenge the country would be facing over the next three years.
