Ceylon Biscuits Limited (CBL), Sri Lanka’s leading biscuit manufacturer and the proud owner of flagship brand Munchee, announced its remarkable achievement of securing the coveted BRCGS AA+ certification for the second consecutive year.
In addition, CBL has been honoured with the highly esteemed Global Performance Excellence Award (GPEA) World Class status.
Commenting on the achievement, CBL Director/CEO Nalin Karunaratne stated, “At CBL, our flagship brand Munchee embodies our commitment to excellence and innovation. These recognitions reflect our dedication to continuously delivering high-quality products to our valued consumers locally and internationally while maintaining world-class standards in safety and sustainability. These prestigious certifications further solidify the brand’s position as a leader in the food manufacturing sector in Sri Lanka and the entire South Asian region.”
The BRC AA+ certification comprises rigorous and detailed standards that are globally recognised and respected within the food industry. It signifies a company’s commitment to maintaining stringent quality and food safety practices and adhering to the highest standards set by the food manufacturing industry for food and product safety, while fostering consumer confidence. Additionally, BRC is one of the few certification programmes that meet the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) benchmarking requirements, assuring adherence to the highest standards in food safety. The AA+ certification is the highest possible rating for a BRC unannounced audit. CBL Munchee remains the only biscuit manufacturer in South Asia to receive this distinguished certification in 2023 and maintained this AA+ achievement for the second consecutive year in 2024 while setting a new benchmark in the industry by being the only biscuit manufacturing company in Sri Lanka to have the BRC AA+ for two consecutive times.
In addition to this milestone, CBL has been recognised with the Global Performance Excellence Award (GPEA) World Class status, awarded by the Asia Pacific Quality Organisation (APQO). This accolade acknowledges organisations that excel in quality management and continuous improvement and it positions CBL as a role model for organisations aspiring to achieve excellence in the global market.
CBL Group Group Managing Director Shea Wickramasinghe highlighted, “These recognitions are a testament to our team’s dedication, hard work and shared commitment to maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety and innovation. Winning these accolades for two consecutive years is a source of pride for CBL and strengthens our resolve to continue delivering the best to our consumers worldwide and this achievement has positioned CBL as a trendsetter, providing leadership to the Sri Lankan confectionery industry.”
“Achieving the AA plus certification and receiving a Global Quality award is a recognition for our commitment to being best in class benchmarking global standards. These achievements cannot take place without commitment and passion from our team at CBL. The loyalty we have from our customers is the final testament.”
CBL Director Rasith Wickramasinghe added, “The journey towards excellence is a continuous one. At CBL, we strive not only to meet but to exceed global benchmarks in quality, safety and environmental sustainability. These awards signify that our efforts align with the highest global standards.”
CBL is a subsidiary of CBL Group, one of the largest food conglomerates in Sri Lanka. Munchee is the flagship brand of CBL, catering to the needs of consumers locally and internationally for over two decades. Munchee continues to invest in delivering the best quality products and is the only biscuit manufacturer in Sri Lanka to have established a dedicated production facility to meet the growing export demand.
