Recognising companies for sustainability and corporate excellence, Best Corporate Citizen Sustainability (BCCS) Awards 2019 will be held this evening at Cinnamon Grand, Colombo.
Hosted by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) for the 16th consecutive year, the objective of the awards is to recognise the importance of corporate sustainability in Sri Lanka and encourage businesses to adopt best practices when creating goods and providing services.
This includes using processes and systems that will ensure the efficient use of resources, which will minimise environmental pollution and which are safe and healthy for employees, consumers and community.
The awards have evolved and improved over the last 15 years, with a dedicated panel of evaluators providing feedback to the Ceylon Chamber and the applicants on how to make better progress when moving forward.
With this in mind, the BCCS Awards this year includes a new award, which recognises women’s empowerment, under the Best Projects Category. These have encouraged the contestants to assess the standing of their company in terms of sustainability when compared to their peers in the industry and adopt best sustainability practices into their core businesses.
Chaired by Dr. Ananda Mallawatantri, the expert evaluation panel also features Dr. Fredrick Abeyratne, Dr. Kiran Dhanapala, Dr. Ravi Fernando, Ajith S. Ratnayake, Anul Amarasuriya, Azam Bakeer Marker, Kanishka Weerasinghe, Prasad de Silva, Rathika de Silka, Ravi de Silva, Sena Peiris, Suren Fernando, Mallika Samaranayake, Chamila Weerathunga, Prof. Praveen Abhayaratne and Prof. Subhangi Herath.
The panel of judges features International Finance Corporation Country Manager Amena Arif, United Nations Development Programme Deputy Resident Representative Faiza Effendi and United States Agency for International Development Economic Growth Office Director Brian Wittnebell.
