In a collaborated effort to combat the distribution of counterfeit spare parts, the Colombo Crime Division (CCD) and the Honda Motor Company initiated multiple criminal raids in different areas of the country.
Accordingly, several dealers who were involved in the sale of counterfeit spare parts of the Honda Brand were arrested in police operations conducted in Kurunegala, Rathnapura, Homagama and Panchikawatte areas.
Moreover, some dealers were also found to be fraudulently packaging and selling counterfeit parts, according to Honda Motors.
“Police investigations are currently ongoing with the aim of disrupting supply chains to stop these illegal activities. By targeting the sources of these counterfeit parts, the authorities hope to protect consumers from potential safety hazards associated with non-genuine parts” the company said in a statement.

The raids were initiated after receiving several customer complaints regarding the sale of counterfeit parts in the local market, officials said.
The matter was of great concern as the use of counterfeit parts not only compromises the integrity of the vehicle but poses serious safety threats and risks to riders and passengers alike.
Moreover, the sale of and dealing in counterfeit products is also a strict violation and a criminal offense according to the Intellectual Property Act No. 36 of 2006.
Therefore, the company urged all customers to be proactive in the purchase of genuine spare parts as cheaper counterfeits cannot guarantee the highest levels of safety and performance.
The company also reiterated its commitment to continue conducting raids of this nature in the future with the support of the Crime Division.
