CMA Sri Lanka has organised a focused session on cybersecurity, risk management, governance and compliance at this year’s conference themed ‘Digital Transformation – A Strategic Imperative’.

A Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team (CERT) survey in 2015 found that 35 percent of respondents believed that their information was of no use to hackers. This may seem to apply only on a personal level. However, businesses hire individuals who then need to be trained on the relevance of cybercrime. As attacks focus on the weakest link, cybersecurity is no longer the province only of specialists.

The session will be chaired by ICTA Director/Legal Advisor Jayantha Fernando. He played the lead role in Sri Lanka’s accession to the Budapest Cybercrime Convention (2015) and Sri Lanka’s ratification of the UN Electronic Communications Convention (2015), both first for South Asia. He is an expert with both UNCITRAL and Council
of Europe.

Fernando was instrumental in drafting the Sri Lankan Electronic Transactions Act No. 19 of 2006, Computer Crimes Act No. 24 of 2007 and helped draft the Payment & Settlement Systems Act No. 28 of 2005, which provided the basis to deploy e-banking systems and provide the licensing framework for South Asia’s first-ever mobile payment system and comes with a wealth of experience in cyber security.

Layers-7 Seguro Consultoria Private Limited Director Sujit Christy is passionate about cybersecurity adoption.
