CMPort hands over 1000 protective suits to PM for mission against COVID-19

The China Merchants Port Group (CMPort)— one of the largest port operators in the world  donated 1000 pieces of protective suits to the Sri Lankan government to support the ongoing national mission against Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak in the country. 


The protective suits are designed for doctors and medical staff members treating COVID-19 patients in key government hospitals. 


The letter in this regard was handed over to Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa by CICT CEO Jack Huang and CFO Raymond Mu. CICT is a joint venture between CMPort and the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA).  In a letter to Prime Minister Rajapaksa, CMPort CEO Dr.Bai Jingtao said CMPort would stand by Sri Lanka and assist the government’s endeavors to tackle COVID-19 given the great friendship between Sri Lanka and China. 


“We also remember the support the Government of Sri Lanka has given to CMPort, in establishing the various port and port-related projects. Particularly, we thank you for having recognized the potential of CMPort,” the letter to the Prime Minister said. 


Dr. Bai Jingtao also thanked the Prime Minister for the support given to the Chinese people during the exasperating times of the Coronavirus Disease 2019, and further stated that China would never forget Sri Lanka’s kindness.
