Petroleum Resources Development Minister Arjuna Ranatunga said that Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) is the only institution which gives the highest revenue to the Treasury.

“In 2016 and 2017, the contribution was Rs. 148 billion. Within first 6 months of 2018 that amount was
Rs. 68 billion.”

He made this observation at the gold awards presentation  ceremony of CPC and CPSTL, yesterday. This ceremony was presided by President Maithripala Sirisena and the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

“We understand that State workers receive high pays. No one would have understood the risk taken by CPC workers. CPC doesn’t mean fuelling at a fuel station. It has a hazardous procedure. As a result of their dedication, our institutions could be able to give the highest revenue to the Treasury. Many people are expecting to sell these institutions if they are not making profits,” minister said.

“When I was the Minister of Ports and Shipping, we were able to make profits. I urge all workers to protect this institution. This task cannot be done by me alone as the Minister.

If we fail to protect this time, there will be another group ready to sell it in the future. If such things happen, both of these institutions will go bankrupt,” he stressed.

Deputy Minister Dr. Anoma Gamage, Secretary Upali Marasinghe, Chairman Dammika Ranatunga, Managing Director Neil Jayasekara and other dignitaries also graced the occasion.
