The Cabinet nod has been received for the proposed road map of Internet of Things (IoT), which is seen as a mechanism to standardize and regulate IoT technology of
Sri Lanka.

Non Cabinet Minister of Digital Infrastructure and Information Technology Ajith P. Perera said the Cabinet paper was aimed at establishing an appropriate institution for the coordination of IoT technology while introducing a flexible and proportionate regulatory and legislative council.

The action plan connected to the road map includes the declaration of an IoT policy of the government, establishment of an IOT Council, development of university and technical colleges based on source development groups, act as catalyst for further development and start-ups through initial training programmes, establishment of a platform hosting infrastructure through public private partnership and revision of national school curriculum.

The action plan is to be implemented within four years (2019 to 2022).
