The top officials of Ceylon Chamber of Commerce had met with the newly appointed Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena to offer their felicitation.
A media release issued by the Presidential Secretariat said the Ceylon Chamber officials “categorically stated that all Members of Parliament and political parties must join an all-party government.”
“If they are unable to do so due to political reasons they should agree on a national plan to review the economy in the interest of the country and the people,” the media release said, attributing the comment to the Ceylon Chamber officials. Prime Minister Gunawardena explained the endeavours of the government to bring the economic activities to normalcy and to deal with the challenge of shortages of essential items.
