The Colombo Chief Magistrate’s court yesterday fixed for April 6 to deliver its order in connection with a private-plaint filed against former Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal.

Meanwhile, Colombo Additional Magistrate T.N.A. Ilangasinghe further extended its order preventing former Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal from leaving the country until April 6.

Former Southern Province Governor Rajith Keerthi Thennakoon had filed a private-plaint in terms of section 136(1)(a) of the Code of Criminal Procedure Act seeking legal action against Cabraal for committing alleged offences while he was serving as the Governor of Central Bank of Sri Lanka.

The petitioner said Cabraal is responsible for the country’s crippling economic crisis since he took measures to pay a US$ 500 million sovereign bond. However, Cabraal had filed objections challenging the maintainability of the case.
