Dammika appointed as new MBSL CEO

Experienced leasing and banking officer H.K.D.W.M. Dammika Kumara Hapuhinna has been appointed as CEO of Merchant Bank of Sri Lanka and Finance PLC (MBSL).

With nearly three decades of experience in leasing and banking industries, Hapuhinna was appointment with effect from June 1. 


Starting his banking career at Seylan Bank PLC, Hapuhinna in 2005 moved to the non-banking financial sector in Saudi Arabia, where he joined Saudi ORIX Leasing Company, the first specialised leasing company in Saudi Arabia and the first non-bank financial institution in the kingdom. 


He pioneered in promoting lease financing in Saudi Arabia and he was a key member of Nations Trust Bank’s in-store banking concept.  


A past pupil of Trinity College Kandy, Hapuhinna holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Wales and an Executive Diploma in Business Administration from the University of Colombo. 


He has held several leadership positions in leading finance companies in Saudi Arabia. He was also the architect instrumental for setting up a new finance company from the ground up as their Head of Operations. 


With his experience in banking and finance, he has gained exposure and expertise in retail banking, credit banking operations, lease financing, consumer finance, real estate finance, leasing operations, receivable management, product development, risk management and consumer protection.
