The U.S.-based temperature-controlled storage provider and Sri Lanka’s largest temperature controlled 3PL service provider Emergent Cold has secured a 4-acre land in Muthurajawela Industrial Zone belonging to Sri Lanka Land Development Corporation on long-term lease to set up a cold room facility.

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa in his capacity as Minister of Urban Development and Housing sought the approval of the Cabinet of Ministers on Monday to allocate a land portion of 04 acre and 02 roods on a 30-year lease basis for this project.

The land portion is part of a 400-acre land pool owned by Sri Lanka Land Development Corporation, which has been developed with pumped up sand from the ocean.

“A number of land plots from this land area have been transferred to both the government and private investors for projects of national importance.

Emergent Cold (Pvt.) has requested a portion of this land for cold room facilities while the Board of Investment (BOI) of Sri Lanka has informed that the establishment has accomplished the basic qualifications under section 17 of the Sri Lanka Investment Board Act for receiving the relevant portion of land,” the Government Information Department noted.

In 2019, Emergent Cold entered Sri Lanka acquiring state-of-the-art temperature-controlled logistics business with a cold storage capacity of 14,000 pallet positions from Finlays Colombo Ltd for Rs.3.62 billion.
