Entire public sector going through restructuring process under new govt. -Susil

Sri Lanka’s entire public sector is going through a restructuring process under the new government led by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, a government minister said. 

“The new administration of the newly elected President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has just begun. We are in the process of restructuring the entire administrative system of the country together with assigned subjects of respective institutions,” State Minister of International Cooperation, Susil Premajayantha said. 

He was delivering the keynote address at the inaugural session of the Network for Development of Agricultural Cooperatives (NEDAC) Executive Committee Meeting for Asia Pacific held in Colombo yesterday.

Prime Minister and Finance Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa recently said the government would come up with new laws to clear public officials from prosecution due to lapses made by them while executing decisions made in good faith to carry out government policy.

Further, Premajayantha emphasised that the interim government has proved its commitment to reduce wastage and unnecessary spending in the public sector by limiting the number of Cabinet ministers to 15. 

“Until the next general election is held, most probably somewhere towards end of April, we have an interim government with 15 Cabinet Ministers and few State ministers. 

It shows the intention of the President and the government to reduce wastage and unnecessary expenses of the public sector. But we have a very strong Cabinet of Ministers and State Ministers who are responsible for the administration of the government within this interim period,” he stressed.
