FTZMA meets BOI chief to share challenges faced

The members of the Free Trade Zone Manufacturers’ Association (FTZMA) met with the Board of Investment (BOI) chief last week to provide a snapshot on the issues faced by the BOI entities in moving forward.The FTZMA chairman and council members paid a courtesy call to BOI Chairman Dinesh Weerakkody on February 17, where several challenges were pointed out.

At the meeting, the members highlighted seven key issues faced, which were installing a fuel station in every Free Trade Zone in the country, having a sustainable energy project, harnessing solar electricity for the BOI and Export Processing Zones in the country, making available paddle bicycles to the BOI companies on a duty/tax-free basis, placing a train service from Fort to airport station to facilitate the KEPZ employees, granting permit/licence to import fully-electric vehicles for the BOI investors, doing away with the renewal of health check-up for foreign investors and looking at the implications of the provisions of Inland Revenue Amendment Act 14 of 2022, on corporate income tax.
