The female corporate directors have stepped forward in urging the government to address the ongoing crisis so that an economic catastrophe can be averted.

The Women Corporate Directors Sri Lanka (WCD) issued a statement calling on politicians of all parties to act urgently and cohesively to take a series of suggested actions to iron out the ongoing issues in the national economy.

The foundation put forward a five-point list for the political fraternity of the country to follow at the earliest.
The first is to support the appointment and functioning of a Cabinet including the Finance Minister to negotiate and implement the IMF programme.

The second is to support the independent functionality of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. The WCD also asserted the need to appoint professional financial and legal advisors for debt restructuring and act as per their advice without looking to fulfill any political agenda.

The politicians were urged to support the restructuring of the international sovereign bonds (ISB) and the negotiation of bridge financing with bilateral and multilateral partners.

The need to support the re-negotiation of debt and extended credit lines with IMF, ADB, World Bank, and through foreign policy with allied nations, was also highlighted.

Lastly, the WCD called on the politicians of the country to be united and show statesmanship in addressing the nation to calm the unrest.

“Support a structured solution to the people’s grievances whilst ensuring short-term stability to facilitate economic recovery,” the WCD said.
