Flemingo Duty Free wins US$ 2.5mn bid to operate restaurant or retail outlet at BIA

Leading global duty free and travel retail operator, Flemingo Duty Free has won a US$ 2.5 million bid to operate a restaurant or retail outlet of an international chain at the departure area of the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) for a three-year lease period.

Minister of Ports, Shipping and Aviation Nimal Siripala de Silva this week sought the approval of the Cabinet of Ministers to award the contract to Flemingo Duty Free (Pvt.) Ltd for US$ 2.5 million for a three-year lease period based on the recommendations of the Standing Procurement Committee appointed by the Cabinet of Ministers.

Competitive bids were called for maintaining either a cafeteria of an international chain of cafeterias and/or a shop with garments and accessories under international brands at the departure/migrant area of the BIA. 

Accordingly, the Government Information Department noted that three bids were received and Flemingo Duty Free had furnished the maximum quotation.
