  • Sri Lankan ambassadors requested to submit promotional plan within a month
  • Officer for Tourism Promotion to be appointed at all embassies

The Tourism Ministry together with the External Affairs Ministry is gearing up to launch a fresh initiative to promote destination Sri Lanka to global travellers for which Sri Lankan embassies across the world have been called upon to put forward an action plan within a month.

To increase the number of tourists visiting the country, the Tourism Ministry together with the External Affairs Ministry has decided to involve Sri Lankan embassies across the world to participate in the promotion of the local tourism landscape.

While Sri Lankan ambassadors have been given the responsibility to formulate and share a targeted action plan, a decision has been made to appoint an ‘Officer for Tourism Promotion’ in the embassies to roll out the efforts.

The decision to launch the initiative was taken earlier this week by Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga and External Affairs Minister Prof. G. L Peiris during a meeting where all Sri Lankan ambassadors joined virtually.

The plans put forward by the embassies will be discussed and tweaked in January after which the implementation dates will be set, the Tourism Ministry said.
