Govt. increases allowance for differently-abled persons

The government will increase a monthly allowance given to differently-abled people to Rs.5, 000 from Rs.3, 000, Finance Ministry said in a statement. 

It said about 72, 000 are expected to receive the payment from July 1, 2019.

The Finance Ministry said it has allocated Rs.4.35 billion from the 2019 budget for the payments.

The increased allowance is part of the government’s initiative to build a caring and inclusive society, the statement added. 

Currently, about 32, 000 differently-abled people who  are registered with the government get the Rs.3, 000 allowance.

The Finance Ministry said another 40,000 differently-abled people have sought registration.
