Signaling a fresh boost to the ties enjoyed between the global organisation for the accountancy profession and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka), the incumbent President of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), Dr. In-Ki Joo arrived in Sri Lanka, on a two-day official visit following an invitation extended to him
by CA Sri Lanka.
Dr. Joo’s visit to the country signals the strong ties CA Sri Lanka enjoys with the apex body of the global accounting organisation dating back to the 1970s.
During his stay, Dr. Joo is scheduled to take part in a series of important events in relation to the Sri Lankan accounting fraternity. He will grace the induction ceremony of the 25th President of CA Sri Lanka as the Chief Guest and is slated to participate in several high-profile meetings with regulatory authorities and policy makers.
He is also expected to join several interactive sessions with members of the Sri Lankan accounting fraternity and will participate at an event organised by CA Sri Lanka for the benefit of the accounting students, where matters pertaining to future challenges of the accounting profession will be discussed.
In its standing as the global organisation for the accountancy profession, IFAC comprises more than 175 member and associate organisations from 130 countries and jurisdictions, representing nearly 3 million professional accountants.
Dr. Joo became President of IFAC in November 2018, having previously served as Deputy President. He is a Professor, Emeritus, of Accounting at the Yonsei University School of Business (Republic of Korea). Dr. Joo is a past President of the Confederation of Asian and Pacific Accountants (2009-2011).
CA Sri Lanka is the first accountancy body from Sri Lanka to obtain membership from IFAC in 1978. In its capacity as the National Body of Accountants in the country, CA Sri Lanka has been enjoying a close relationship with IFAC spanning many decades and works closely with the global accounting body in an effort to strengthen the standing of accounting professionals in Sri Lanka and around the world. Over the years, several members of CA Sri Lanka including its Past Presidents have served on top committees of IFAC.
