As the cement industry is left to grapple with price control issues that are hampering the supply of the commodity in the country, Sri Lanka’s largest cement manufacturer, INSEE, announced that it is gearing to cater to the growing demand with the completion of the maintenance of its grinding plant in Galle.

INSEE Cement recently completed a week-long scheduled maintenance of the Galle grinding plant to ensure the highest level of productivity and quality consistency in production. The inspection, carried out by a team of specialists from original equipment supplier Loesche of Germany, was to ensure trademark quality and consistency of cement production.

INSEE Cement Chief Executive Officer Gustavo Navarro in a statement to the media shared that as Sri Lanka’s only fully integrated cement manufacturer, efforts were taken to meet the growing demand of the local market. This was achieved by increasing the reliability and improving operations by up-keeping the plants and machinery to globally benchmarked standards.

As a possible shortage in cement is likely to emerge in the industry, due to the decline in imports and a hike in cost of production localy, Navarro highlighted that efforts are underway to continue to increase production capacities so that growing market demand in the country can be met without any hindrance.

“By carrying out preventive maintenance we ensure there are no breakdowns or failures in our operations, eliminating any occupational hazards for our teams as their health and safety remains our priority,” he stressed.
INSEE Cement’s plants currently possess a 3.6 -million-ton production capacity through its two plants in Galle, with 1.5-million-ton capacity complemented by the integrated cement plant in Puttalam with a production capacity of 1.3 million tons, and 0.8-million-ton import capacity at the Colombo Cement Terminal. `
