The Cabinet of Ministers this week approved a proposal to set up a temperature-controlled storage facility with an investment of Rs.475 million in Dambulla, a key farming region in the country’s North Central Province.

The proposal in this regard was submitted to the Cabinet by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe in his capacity as the National Policies and Economic Affairs Minister.

The government of India has agreed to provide Rs.300 million as a grant to partly finance the storage facility.

A lot of vegetables and fruits that arrive at the Dambulla Economic Centre perish prematurely due to lack of refrigeration facilities.
