India’s Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said yesterday the country is willing to make investments in Sri Lanka to help it ease a financial crisis, foreign media reported.

Sri Lanka has been suffering a severe shortage of foreign exchange, leading to widespread power cuts in recent days after being left unable to pay for fuel shipments.

Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa is scheduled to arrive in New Delhi tomorrow (25th) to meet with his Indian counterpart Nirmala Sitaraman and Jaishankar to discuss two credit lines up to US $ 1.5 billion.

Finance Ministry Secretary Sajith Attygalle is also to accompany Rajapaksa on his visit to New Delhi.
