The Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka (IBSL) has initiated a project of partnership with banks and non-bank financial institutions to open opportunities for students under the new curriculum to work in those institutions as interns and obtain hands on experience of business operations of banking and finance.

The IBSL, recognising the importance of obtaining the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) for its newly launched professional programme (i.e. DBF and HDBF), has been working closely with the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC) to develop National Competency Standards (NCS) for Banking and Finance and obtain National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) for the qualifications offered by the IBSL.

Students will have the opportunity of enhancing competency and confidence to become resourceful and promising candidates at the successful completion of their studies along with the internship.

The initial agreement was signed with the Sampath Bank PLC recently. Following this the second agreement was signed with Pan Asia Bank PLC and the agreement between the IBSL and Seylan Bank PLC was formalised too. The recent collaboration was formalised with Nations Trust Bank.
