Investors sought to set up aviation training academy at Batticaloa airport

The government seeks competitive bids from investors to set up an aviation training academy at Batticaloa International Airport.

Ports, Shipping and Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva on Monday sought the approval of the Cabinet of Ministers to invite bids from investors to establish a flight training academy at Batticaloa International Airport, in order to generate revenue.

The airport has a total land space of 145.2 hectares and the portion thereof amounting to 75.9 hectares has been retained by Sri Lanka Air Force for continued operation of its air base.  Batticaloa International Airport, which was promoted as the gateway to the Eastern province,

consists of a 1,066-meter long and 46-meter-wide runway, a new runway lighting system and a new passenger terminal building, built at a cost of 
Rs.1.4 billion.
