Iraq tops list as largest importer of Ceylon Tea

Iraq topped the list as the largest importer for Ceylon Tea in 2021, pushing Turkey down to second position.
Iraq imported 27 percent more of Ceylon Tea in 2021 compared to 2020, while imports by Turkey contracted by 23.5 percent. Imports by Russia too declined by 7.6 percent.


Exports to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) expanded significantly, by 167 percent from 2020, making it the fourth largest market for Ceylon Tea. 


Iran moved down by a position to the fifth place but showed a marginal gain of 4.7 percent when compared with 2020 figures. 


Other notable importers for Ceylon Tea in 2021 were China, Libya, Azerbaijan, Chile and Syria. 
Meanwhile, destinations such as Chile, Syria and Saudi Arabia have recorded decreases in imports during the period under review. 


Forbes and Walker Tea Brokers said it is noteworthy that imports to Libya and Japan increased significantly by 58 percent and 17 percent respectively.
