The country’s largest conglomerate, the John Keells group, has won a government tender for two land plots in the Muthurajawela sand fill area for the next 30 years to conduct logistics operators.

The group subsidiary, John Keells Logistics (Pvt.) Ltd, won the tenders and the cabinet has approved the leasing of land to the company, the cabinet office said.

The two land plots were some of the few remaining parcels in the 400-acre area, in which most of the other land plots have been demarcated for various purposes by the government after being developed by Sri Lanka Land Reclamation and Development Corporation.

The John Keells group already has logistical operations in the area, with John Keells Warehousing (Pvt.) Ltd having the leasehold rights to a six-acre land in Muthurajawela. The area is attractive for its proximity to both the Colombo Port and Bandaranaike International Airport. John Keells Logistics operates and manages several modern multi-user warehousing complexes located within close proximities to the industrial zones, airport and
Colombo Port.
