The government has decided to temporarily close the Jaffna International Airport (JIA) for international flights for a period of two weeks, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) announced yesterday.

The special Presidential Task Force to monitor and discuss preventive measures against COVID–19 in Sri Lanka has recommended the measure, as part of efforts to contain the spread of the virus in the country.

Accordingly, the CAA has taken measures to implement the partial closure of the JIA.

However, speaking to Mirror Business CAA, Director General, H.M.C. Nimalsiri noted that JIA would remain open for domestic flights.Domestic airlines and a budget airline travelling between South India and Sri Lanka have been operating at the JIA.
