July national tea sales average up 22%

The Ceylon Tea national sales average has witnessed a 22 percent year-on-year (YoY) increase for the month of July, showing an expansion of Rs.113.09 compared with the corresponding period in 2019. 


The latest tea report by Forbes & Walker Tea Brokers showed that the national average for the month of July 2020 totalled Rs.611.25 (US $ 3.32), a substantial increase from Rs.497.35 (US $ 2.84) recorded in July 2020. On a month-on-month (MoM) basis, July sales average showed a marginal dip of Rs.1.42, with Rs.612.67 being posted 
last month. 


According to an analysis of the elevational averages by Forbes & Walker Tea Brokers, High Growns totalled Rs.533.68 (US $ 2.90) for July 2020, which is a decrease of Rs.33.43 MoM vis-à-vis Rs.567.11 of June 2020. When compared to July 2019, an average of Rs.449.10 (US $ 2.56), a fairly significant increase of Rs.84.58 (US $ 0.34), is recorded YoY. 

Mediums, averaging Rs.524.57 (US $ 2.85) for July 2020, have recorded a decrease of Rs.19.62, compared to the Rs.544.19 of June 2020. When compared to the July 2019 average of Rs.414.40 (US $ 2.36), a significant increase of Rs.110.17 (US $ 0.49) YoY is observed. 


Low Growns, totalling Rs.668.20 (US $ 3.63) for July 2020, recorded an increase of Rs.12.23 in comparison to Rs.655.97 of June 2020. Here again, the average shows a significant increase of Rs.129.57 (US $ 0.56) YoY, when compared to Rs.538.63 (US $ 3.07) of July 2019.


The January-July 2020 cumulative national average analysis shows that Rs.625.21 (US $ 3.40) is recorded, compared to Rs.549.99 (US $ 3.11) in the corresponding period of 2019.
High Growns for the January-July 2020 period recorded an average of Rs.575.92 (US $ 3.14), an increase of Rs.57.26 (US $ 0.21) vis-à-vis Rs.518.66 (US$ 2.93) of January-July 2019.  Mediums averaging Rs.548.84 (US $ 2.99) has shown an increase of Rs.72.09 (US $ 0.29), compared to Rs.476.75 (US $ 2.70) of January-July 2019.


Meanwhile, Low Growns totalling Rs.667.05 (US $ 3.63) for January-July 2020 have shown the highest increase of Rs.86.63 (US $ 0.35) vis-à-vis Rs.580.42 (US $ 3.28) of January-July 2019.


Both the month and cumulative averages show an increase when analysed in US dollar terms too, as against the corresponding period of 2019.
