Minister of Transport, Highways and Mass Media Bandula Gunawardana this week announced that a multi-modal transport hub will be established in front of Good Shed Bus Station in Kandy.
The hub will be built with the assistance of the World Bank and its construction work will be started before the end of this year.

The minister said that the plan to build the multi-modal transport hub has been in the works for seven years, and that the construction work will finally begin this year.

The hub will help to alleviate traffic congestion in the Kandy city and will provide a convenient and integrated transportation system for passengers.

Gunawardana said this during the ceremony held to open the new Kandy City Railway Station and the Superintendent’s Office Complex.

The railway station has been constructed at a cost of Rs.5 million and will provide relief to passengers travelling between Kandy and Matale.

The office complex has been built at a cost of Rs.80 million and will replace the old office building that is on the land earmarked for the construction of the multi-modal transport hub.
Gunawardana said the construction of the multi-modal transport hub is part of the government’s efforts to improve the transportation infrastructure in Sri Lanka.

He said the government is committed to providing safe, efficient, and affordable transportation options for all Sri Lankans.
