Labour Minister to initiate talks to increase plantation workers’ wages to Rs.1000

Labour Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva has said that a programme will be implemented to ensure the plantation sector workers will receive the daily wage of Rs.1, 000 as promised in budget 2021.

The Minister has made this remark addressing the parliamentary consultative committee meeting of the Labour Ministry.

The Minister said after the budget approval in Parliament, discussions will be held with relevant parties to formulate a plan to increase the wages of plantation sector workers.

He also said that new laws would be introduced to take over regional plantation companies, which have not been able to increase production capacity and failed to sustain properly.
